Our new Soft Landing morning routine will be starting the second day of school. This new procedure has been used in many schools around the district and beyond and we are implementing it for many reasons including, Supporting Educational Equity, Building Community, and Creating a Sense of Belonging.
A few things for you to know about Soft Landing.
1. School starts at 7:50, but Soft Landing starts at 7:35. Children are not to be on the playground starting once the first bell rings at 7:35, all children should enter the building either at 7:35, or once they've arrived after 7:35, but before 7:50. Children arriving after 7:50 should check in at the office, and will be considered tardy.
2. There will be two doors manned in the morning. These are the only two doors where people will be allowed to enter the building. Those doors will be the front door and the door at then end of the 3rd grade hall, on the north side of the building on the playground side.
3. Breakfast will be served starting at 7:35. Students who would like to eat breakfast should get breakfast from the cafeteria when they enter the building, then report to the classroom to eat during the Soft Landing.
4. This time is meant to help students get a fresh start, it gives them opportunity for choice, to help connect with peers, and it is an opportunity for teachers to help respond to student needs, and be welcoming and establish a sense of belonging. It is a time for conversations, play and relationship building. Students will be allowed to play (including open games, building, coloring, etc), they can just hang out with friends to chat, read, do puzzles or other ideas, however, it is a technology free time.
If you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks

We have a joint blog because what happens in 120, happens in 122. We are a team of teachers that plan all of our curriculum, lessons, et. al. together, and we even share students from time to time throughout the school year.
Does your child bring A LOT of papers home from school? Do things frequently get lost is the shuffle of your daily lives? Well that's why we have made this blog. This is your one stop shopping for all families to find out what's happening in our classrooms. We post TONS of stuff here on the blog including, daily lessons, rubrics and directions for projects, anchor charts, photos of student work, important notes from specials teachers/nurse/office, online access to textbooks and other websites, upcoming events, and so much more.
Please, Please, Please if you want to know what is going on in our classrooms this is the spot! So many things that happen in room 120 or 122 that end up here. Always make this the first spot to look when you're wondering about your child's classroom, learning or upcoming events.
We'd love to know if you came to check out our blog. Leave a comment below so we can get a glimpse of who has come to visit, and come back often to check out new content!
