Being an Ally
This week during Morning Meeting and Community Building time we have been talking about what it means to be an ally. Here is some of the work we did this week:
Science: Variables Update
Students tested 3 different variables during our swingers experiment.
They asked these questions:
- What will happen if we change the angle that we swing from?
- What will happen if we change the weight of the pendulum?
- What will happen if we change the length of the swinger?
Ask your child what their results were!
Throughout our experiment we emphasized the idea that you can only change ONE variable at a time. We read about and analyzed other experiments to see if the scientist did a good job of controlling the experiment. As a final assessment we watched a Myth Busters video about protecting sneezes and analyzed how this experiment was conducted.
US State Practice
Here are some games kids can play to help practice their US state knowledge. We will be working on this all year.

Red: A Crayon Story
After reading Red: A Crayon Story as a Welcoming Schools activity, we each created our own crayons that shared three things people might not know about us just by looking at us. Many of you were able to see these at Student Success Night! We have now created a Randall Crayon Box - 347 in all!

Walk Out for Climate Change
On Friday some of our Randall 5th graders participated in the world wide walk out for climate change. Don't worry, it was a supervised student stroll around the Randall School block. Some students made signs beforehand, and many of our students chanted, "Put Earth First!"

Snack
Here is the information from the district about approved snacks for in class snack. We are bring your own snack classrooms, with a severe food allergies in both classes, so peanut and nut tree free items please.
Book Recommendations
I had quite a few parents ask me for book recommendations at conferences. So I compiled a list of books that I've enjoyed that are available on the school's Sora library. This can be accessed by all students on the Randall Library Portal. Have fun reading!
