Thinking About Narratives

At the beginning of 5th grade we start writing by reviewing what we know about writing narratives. We will spend a short amount of time writing personal narratives. As 5th graders, we are working on expanding our narrative skill by embellishing our writing, shifting our stories to a more realistic fiction type genre. As the year continues, our narrative writing will be geared toward historical fiction. Through our writing of historical fiction we can incorporate our new learning about the history of North American with our writing skills. This week, we talked about generating ideas for writing, created a list of possible narrative topics we could write about and produced a writing sample.
